Sewer Line Replacement

To properly replace the sewer line from your building to the septic tank, we need to know where your utilities are, including gas or propane, community or district water, electrical, telephone, cable television.  These utilities are located by a utilities locating service.  If the locate is erroneous, the utility companies are responsible for repairing any damage caused by our excavation work; if the locate is accurate, we are responsible for the cost of repair.  And these repairs can be very costly.

Other “utilities” are underground services installed by the homeowner, the building contractor or other subcontractors, such as: corrugated polypipe French drain systems around the building, including drain piping to carry the water away to daylight; roof drain extensions to carry away roof drainage; sprinkling systems, including mains, submains, zone piping, heads, control valves and control wiring; local extensions of the principal utilities in the first paragraph that are run to outbuildings, barns, corrals, guest residences, etc.  The location of all these secondary utilities may be unknown and impossible to locate.  We are not responsible for any damage caused to or the repair of any of these items, unless you have located and marked them accurately.

Then, we have landscaping, including trees, bushes, lawn grass, borders, walkways, sidewalks.  They need to be considered and addressed before we dig.  We do not repair them.

Finally, the digging process itself.  We never know what the underground soil conditions may be.  If we run into sandstone or clay stone bedrock, digging progress can be slowed considerably and will result in increased cost.  The soil that is removed must be replaced and compacted back into the trench; rarely does the soil go back in and sit at the original level.  There is usually a mound which will settle overtime with watering.  If you want the excavation to be returned to exact level, then we will have to use a compactor and place the soil in “lifts” or partial fills in between compacting the length of the trench.  This process requires additional labor and machine rental expense.  Please tell us how much care you want taken and the quality of the finished work you require.
